Dean of Students

The Dean of Students will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our educational community. Reporting to the Building Principal and collaborating closely with the Student Programs Supervisor, Director of Special Education, Director of Student Services, and all instructional staff, the Dean of Students will create the conditions for student success in the classroom setting and as citizens in the future.

Salary: $60,000—$70,000

NYS retirement, EAP, continuing education assistance, and exceptional insurance, including retiree health insurance, are available.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. The Dean of Students will provide proactive leadership to engage all students, staff, and faculty in the delivery of behavioral programs and services to support the student's academic achievement and personal and social/emotional development by:

Working cooperatively with the principal, counseling staff, the health office, staff, students, and parents toward a positive school climate.

Being an active member of the building’s teams and committees, including but not limited to the Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS),  Innovative Programs Team, as well as other teams as directed by the building principal and administration

Be visible and interact with students by being present in the hallways, classrooms, and other common areas.

Working with administration, school counselors, social workers, clinicians, psychologists, teachers, and behavior specialists to identify students needing extra support.

Completing TCI training and any other training recommended by the administration.

In conjunction with other school personnel, develop and provide professional development to staff, faculty, and students regarding implementing the District’s behavior practices such as Mindfulness, Restorative Justice, etc.

2.  The Dean of Students will provide support to students, staff, faculty, administration, and parents in all disciplinary matters by:

 Assisting the building administrator in investigating disciplinary concerns.

Assisting the building administrator in administering the proper consequence for students’ actions as it relates to their behavior.

Meet with students, parents, and teachers to discuss the behavior and determine the best course of action.

Assist the building administrator in re-entering students into the building upon completing an out-of-school suspension and be the contact person regarding the students' behavior plan.

Assisting the main office and nurse’s office in contacting parents regarding chronic absenteeism and chronic tardiness.

Reporting information to the building DASA Coordinator regarding investigating concerns and implementing a plan to prevent further issues. 

3.   The Dean of Students will ensure all parents, students, community members, employees, and all visitors to our buildings by:

 Greeting parents, students, community members, employees, and all visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude.

Displaying a customer service approach when working with others in person, on the phone, and through written and electronic communication.

Being attentive to the needs of all individuals who request their assistance.

Communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Utilizing their skills to de-escalate a situation when other people are in a heightened or excited state.

4.    The Dean of Students will assume other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.

The Dean of Students will possess the following minimum qualities, qualifications, skills, and/or abilities:

Evidence of an open, collaborative leadership style that fosters a sense of teamwork and common purpose.

Proven people skills and is an effective communicator.  The Dean of Students will be positive, approachable, and respectful of others.

Willingness to become an active, engaged, and visible learning community member.

Unquestioned integrity, honesty, and diplomacy.

A clear communicator in both oral and written language, including electronic communication.

Work collaboratively with other staff members, administrators, students, and parents.

Use problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Listens first.

Administrative Aide

One (1) full-time, 12-month, Non-Unit Support, Competitive Civil Service, provisional position in the Main Office at OAOC in Milford.

Salary: $37,000—$43,000

Paid holidays, generous sick and vacation time, NYS retirement, EAP, continuing education assistance, and exceptional insurance, including retiree health insurance, are available.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for the performance of a variety of complex clerical and routine administrative duties within an agency. Work is performed under general supervision with leeway allowed for independent decision making regarding the application of agency policy and procedure. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate clerical employees. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)

Acts as secretary to a department head or other administrator;

Conducts correspondence on matters where policies and procedures are defined;

Uses computer and computer programs in the design and creation of various forms of multimedia, websites and online registrations;

Uses other automated office equipment for the purpose of maintaining office records and compiling reports;

Schedules and makes appointments for the department head or administrator;

Assembles a variety of data from office records for incorporation in various reports;

Maintains budget control data, figures and statistical data for agency information purposes:

Provides routine information to the public and/or other agencies on request and by direction of the department head or administrator:

May process checks, claims, vouchers, receipts, and code and file requisitions;

May interview and screen clients, salespersons and visitors;

May collect fees and account for monies received;

May Instruct employees in the performance of specialized clerical work;

May assign or review work of other employees;

May maintain attendance records of office employees.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of agency policies and procedures; good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of business English and arithmetic; good knowledge of maintenance of financial accounts and records; ability to use computer, computer programs, and other automated office equipment; ability to understand and apply complex written and oral directions; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to meet and deal with the public; clerical aptitude; initiative and resourcefulness; depending on assignment, may be required to be a qualified typist: tact, courtesy, and integrity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Crisis Intervention Specialist

ONC BOCES is accepting applications for a Crisis Intervention Specialist to begin at the start of the 2025-2026 school year.

Crisis intervention specialists are trained to manage and respond to immediate crises or emergencies, whether they are related to behavioral issues, mental health concerns, or external events impacting students. They focus on de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution, and providing immediate support during critical situations. Collaborate with educators, school counselors, and behavioral specialists to create crisis management plans tailored to students' unique needs. They offer support during behavioral emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.

This is a full-time, 10-month position located at OAOC in Milford.

Salary: $35,721.00

School Counselor - Anticipated

ONC BOCES is anticipating a need for a School Counselor.

ONC BOCES School Counselors provide guidance and counseling to special education and regular education students.

The position is anticipated to begin at the start of the 2025-2026 school year.

2025-2026 School Year:
Starting Base Salary: $48,890
Plus $525 per year of experience
Plus $45 per graduate credit
Plus $1,100 per master’s degree
